Role Purpose

The Role holder will be responsible for oversight of day to day cargo process ensuring accurate processes are followed, supervision over GHA and CHA, liaising with third party service providers, attending flights and turnaround of aircrafts at East Midlands Airport. Additionally while on shift the role will monitor Customs and Security messaging, ULD Management and Loading enquiries.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities of the role:

  • Liaising with internal departments and external third-party service providers to ensure operation requirements are fulfilled.
  • Responsible for monitoring cargo build up in the GHA warehouse, liaise with loadmasters regarding build up instructions provided to Ground Handling Agent (GHA) for flights, offer guidance and direction as necessary to ensure each ULD is fully maximised in a safe & secure manner.
  • Ensure the oversight of import and export cargo messaging by GHA and company third party service  provider is accurate.
  • Attend the flights airside for turnaround and report any irregularities to management through email and company software system.
  • Monitor/Update ULD and equipment stock levels at EMA and other stations based on ULD information received from respective stations and ensuring distribution of ULD’s to cater for One Air operational requirements.
  • Monitoring and ensuring all flight pack cargo documents are sent on time to all relevant addresses and conduct random flight file audits to ensure all documentation is present and legible.
  • Communicate with all relevant stakeholders if any issues during flight turnaround, ensuring all third parties are performing their task as per One Air standards and ensure they service flight on time.
  • Arrange trucking services where required for movement of ULD’s.
  • Ensure all safety & compliance checks are performed to airline standards.
  • Perform random weight and volumetric checks of export or import shipments as required.
  • Complete tasks/projects as directed by the Cargo Operations Manager/Chief LM/ Management Team.

Key skills , knowledge, Experience required: (i.e. those required to fulfil the role, including qualifications):

  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail & excellent organisational skills.
  • Load and Cargo Planning of aircrafts, desirable experience in handling of B747F and B777F.
  • Knowledge of Weight & Balance desirable.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft products (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Dangerous Goods and Live Animals knowledge required and valid certification  desirable.
  • Preferable experience and knowledge of cargo system software.
  • Understanding of Import & Export procedures.
  • Knowledge of Customs messaging process and EDI messages.
  • Experience of warehouse operations including buildup and breakdown.
  • Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Excellent customer service & ability to manage your time effectively.
  • Ability in problem solving, making informed decisions under pressure, and meeting tight deadlines is essential.
  • Experience in the airfreight industry/airline industry is essential.
  • Preferable experience in Warehouse and Airside operations.
  • Full UK driving license required.

Any additional relevant information:

  • The Role holder will be required to work flexibly at Swissport Office at EMA in the allocated Office space for One Air.  
  • Ability to gain an Airport ID with DBS check is essential.
  • Weekend working required based on shift pattern.
